Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has decided to lease tourist representative counters at Velana International Airport (VIA). The purpose of the counters is to provide services and assist tourists upon their arrival.
MACL stated that nine tourist representative counters are available for lease at the international terminal and that it will accept proposals from registered operators of resorts, hotels, guesthouses, yacht marinas, diving centres, and travel agencies. Interested businesses are required to submit their proposal by January 2.
The Maldives has entered its high season for tourism. Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism show that 1.57 million tourist visits have been recorded so far this year, which is a 27.6% increase compared to 2021.
Maldives Immigration has already increased the number of counters at VIA in preparation for the high season and is making changes to the interior of the venue to manage the queues in the departure and arrival halls.
