MTCC brings in environmentally friendly buses

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has brought in six environmentally friendly electric buses.

The buses have been cleared by customs and MTCC is preparing to bring the vehicles to service. The state-owned company stated that the six new electric buses will be used in the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus fleet and that the vehicles are compact in size, with a capacity of 11 seats and wheelchair access. It added that it is delighted to contribute to the government’s target of net-zero emissions by 2030.

MTCC stated that the electric buses can be charged at the Greater Male’ Bus Terminal and that they will be added to the RTL bus fleet as soon as they are registered. Currently, the fleet consists of 41 buses, with 18 in service in Male’.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 and reduce the reliance on imported fuel. As such, MTCC stated that it is committed to expanding the RTL service with more environmentally friendly buses.
