The Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of Mohamed Firaz as the Vice President of the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB).
The Parliamentary State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee reviewed the request by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to appoint Firaz as the Vice President of PCB. Following endorsement by the committee, the Parliament approved the appointment with votes from 57 parliamentarians.
Firaz holds a Master of Business Administration from Open University Malaysia. He will be appointed as the Vice President of PCB after the appointment of current Vice President Asim Mohamed as President. The other members of PCB are Aishath Shazly, Rushaha Ahmed Shareef, Ali Shafeeu, Ali Shujau, and Ahmed Shareef Yoosuf.
PCB was established under the Law of Privatisation, Corporatisation, Monitoring, and Evaluation of Government Businesses. The PCB is a seven-member board tasked to carry out privatisation, corporatisation, monitoring, evaluation, and selling of public shares from government companies, government shareholding companies, and commercial government business enterprises, and all procedures relating to such activities.
