The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has commended the main opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) for holding internal elections.
On Twitter, Chairperson of MDP Fayyaz Ismail said the internal elections of PPM were unhindered by disruptions from security services, which is proof of the political independence that all parties now enjoy. He highlighted the bleak state of politics in the Maldives five years ago, during which police officers had confiscated ballot boxes.
The statement from Fayyaz was in regard to the disruption of political activities held by the party during the previous PPM government. He also shared photos in the tweet, which show police officers confiscating ballot boxes during the internal elections of MDP in 2018.
