PPM wins two WDC by-elections

The Election Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has revealed that the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) has won the by-elections of two women's development committees (WDCs).

The by-elections were held to elect a member of the women's development committee (WDC) in Maaungoodhoo in Shaviyani Atoll and Kalaidhoo in Laamu Atoll. PPM candidate Fareeda Adnan won the Maaungoodhoo WDC seat with 124 votes. Her opponent Aminath Yumna Abdul Ghani from Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) got 115 votes. PPM and MDP also contested the seat of the Kalaidhoo WDC. The PPM candidate Safiya got 197 votes and MDP candidate Huwaylt Raheema got 192 votes.

The final results of the elections will be announced this week.
