Dhaandhoo Chief Magistrate resigns

Chief Magistrate of the Dhaandhoo Magistrate Court Luayyu Ibrahim has resigned, after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) decided to dismiss him over sexual harassment.

JSC stated that Chief Magistrate Luayyu is being investigated over 22 complaints and that the investigation of two of the cases had found that he had acted against the code of conduct of a judge. The commission stated that he had sexually harassed an employee of the Dhaandhoo Magistrate Court, conducted business dealings during official court hours, and attempted to influence witnesses involved in the complaints.

JSC stated that Chief Magistrate Luayyu’s actions had violated the Judges Act and the Judges’ Code of Conduct and had decided to request the Parliament to dismiss him.
