Goidhoo Chief Magistrate to be dismissed

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to dismiss Chief Magistrate of the Goidhoo Magistrate Court Ahmed Nishar for using his influence in a case concerning a business he is invested in.

JSC stated Chief Magistrate Nishar had recused himself in a case filed at the Fulhadhoo Magistrate Court, in which the defendant was involved in a business he is invested in. He later began presiding over the hearings after another judge was appointed. The commission stated that his actions had violated procedures by taking over the court case while he still had a conflict of interest.

JSC stated that Chief Magistrate Nishar began presiding over the hearings after recusing himself due to his business relationship with the defendant, in order to use his position to influence the case. Therefore, the commission has decided to request the Parliament to dismiss the judge in accordance with the Judges Act and the JSC regulations.
