Gov't says agriculture needs to modernise to take it to another level

Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has said that agriculture should be shaped in line with the times to take the industry to the next level. He made the statement at the closing ceremony of the awareness workshop for farmers conducted to mark National Farmers' Day in Kaashishoo, Kaafu Atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hussain said that farmers have to make changes in the way they farm by using the latest technology to take agriculture in the Maldives a step further. He urged the farmers to cultivate the land in such a way that they can get a good profit from the available land plots.

At the closing ceremony, Minister Hussain presented certificates to 28 farmers who participated in the workshop. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the ministry and Kaashidoo Island Council.

During the three-day workshop, various information sessions were conducted for the farmers. They included information on various programmes and projects undertaken by the ministry to develop agriculture. In addition, visits were made to fields in Kaashidhoo, and important information needed to identify plant diseases and promote agriculture was shared with the farmers. The workshop also taught the students how to grow microgreens and familiarise them with the use of microgreens in their meals.
