The development of the new mosque in Thuraakunu, Haa Alifu Atoll, has begun.
The fieldwork for the project was inaugurated at a special ceremony by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali and Parliamentarian Ahmed Saleem with members of the Thuraakunu Island Council in attendance.
Micron Private Limited was contracted to build the mosque in March last year at a cost of USD686,000. The mosque was built to modern standards and can accommodate 300 worshippers
During his visit to Thuraakunu, Minister Zahir led the Friday prayers, and the team from the ministry held discussions with the island council.
