Gov't prepares to submit proposed State Budget 2023

Ministry of Finance has announced the drafting of the State Budget 2023 will be completed within the next two weeks and submitted to the Parliament of the Maldives on October 31.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Chief Financial Budget Executive Ahmed Sarwash Adam said the budget for next year is currently being drafted and efforts are ongoing to decide which projects are to be included for 2023. He detailed that meetings have been held with all the offices to evaluate the budget separately. He added the ministry is reviewing and finalising the updates of the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP).

The Parliament approved USD2.39 billion as the state budget for 2022 after adding USD4.72 million to the budget during the review by the budget committee. State Budget 2022 was passed by the parliament on November 24, with votes from 64 parliamentarians while eight parliamentarians from the opposition voted against the proposed budget.
