MTCC completes Himmafushi Harbour Development project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed Phase 2 of the harbour development project in Himmafushi, Kaafu Atoll.

The scope of the project included harbour dredging operations of 19,895cbm, channel dredging operations of 9,900cbm, construction of a 251m quay wall, a 15m breakwater, a 311m revetment, installation of concrete pavement, construction of bridge and jetty, installation of harbour streetlights, navigation lights and mooring blocks.

Himmafushi has a population of 1,000 residents and consists of a fish processing factory. The island is known for its local tourism, which had been hindered due to the space constraints at the harbour.

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted MTCC to develop the new harbour in 2019 at a cost of USD2 million. MTCC stated the residents will be pleased with the new harbour, which will pave the way for the development of local tourism and fishing, as well as allow vessels to easily dock on the island.
