Discussions have begun the process to reform the composition of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Director of Communications at the Attorney General's Office (AGO) Hussain Hassan said Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath has met with JSC and the Supreme Court as part of the ongoing discussions to reform the composition. Reviewing and revising the composition of the JSC and amending Article 157 of the constitution is one of the key pledges made by the government to reform the judiciary.
AGO said the reviewing and revising of the composition of the JSC and drafting of the necessary law to amend the constitution has now started. AGO said the bill will include amendments to Article 157 of the constitution, in accordance with relevant international norms and principles to ensure that the JSC is free from biased political influence.
The bill will be introduced in the ongoing third session of the Parliament.
