India vows to continue supporting development of Maldives

India has vowed to continue supporting development projects in the Maldives. Foreign Secretary of India Vinay Mohan Kwatra made the statement during a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the President's Office.

At the meeting, Foreign Secretary Vinay emphasised that the response of the Maldives to the COVID-19 pandemic was exemplary, as the country has nearly restored its economy to pre-pandemic levels. He also said the Maldives is one of the most important regional partners, and that India would continue to support numerous developmental projects in the Maldives.

During the meeting, President Solih welcomed Foreign Secretary Vinay and noted this was his first visit to the Maldives. The president praised his extensive career in the diplomatic service and reminisced about the two countries' close ties, highlighting that the relationship had seen unprecedented growth in recent years.

Furthermore, President Solih said India has consistently proven to be the closest friend of the Maldives. Before concluding the call, he conveyed his gratitude to the Government of India for its continued support and assistance to the Maldives.
