Maldives sets Free Diving World Record

The Maldives has broken the Guinness World Record for most people free diving simultaneously and the largest number of people holding their breath underwater at the same time. The event took place in CROSSROADS Maldives. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed attended the event.

The Freedive Maldives organised the Neyvaa 2 event to get the Maldives into the Guinness World Record in the golden year of tourism in the Maldives. The event was held simultaneously at 12 resorts in the Maldives. A total of 459 individuals participated in the event. However, only 455 individuals were able to hold their breath underwater for one minute and thirty seconds as per the guidelines set for the record.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom the event was held to coincide with the golden year of tourism in the Maldives. He noted that the participation of First Lady Fazna shows her support for the efforts being made by the private sector to develop the economy of the Maldives and said she gave a strong message to the public by being actively involved in the event.

There are numerous activities being organised throughout the year in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism to celebrate the golden year of tourism in the Maldives. In addition, the government has decided to celebrate this year's Tourism Day for an entire week starting from October 3, which has been declared a public holiday to mark the National Tourism Day of the Maldives.

In 2019, Maldives set a world record for free diving. A total of 521 individuals participated in the event.
