The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) have won four seats in the by-elections held on October 1.
The by-elections were held to elect a council member for Maaungoodhoo in Shaviyani Atoll and the members for the women's development committee (WDC) in Rasmaadhoo in Raa Atoll, Guraidhoo in Thaa Atoll, and Dhanbidhoo in Laamu Atoll.
The preliminary results show that MDP candidate Fathimath Shimana won the Maaungoodhoo council by-election seat while MDP candidate Aishath Ziyaadha won the seat in Dhanbidhoo WDC. In addition, PPM candidate Sabira Mohamed won the seat in Rasmaadhoo WDC and Sharuma Ali Manik, who also contested from the PPM, won the seat in Guraidhoo WDC.
The final results of these elections have not yet been announced by the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM).
