Prices to be reduced after 14 ice plants transferred to Fenaka

Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resource and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has stated that ice plants were transferred to Fenaka Corporation Limited to reduce the price of ice for fishermen. He made the remarks at the agreement signing ceremony to transfer 14 ice plants of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) to Fenaka Corporation Limited.

At the ceremony, Minister Hassan highlighted that Fenaka offices have been established in all inhabited islands and that the engineers at the offices will be able to quickly solve any issue at the ice plants. He compared it to the long-distance MIFCO engineers have to travel to fix technical issues at the plants.

Additionally, Minister Hassan said Fenaka will be able to reduce the expenditure on providing electricity to the ice plants, which will reduce the price of ice sold to fishermen. He further said the changes will allow MIFCO to prioritise its other operations and to expand fish exports to more markets.
