Maldives aiming to be most popular destination for third year

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has revealed the aim is to secure the title of the world's most popular destination for the third consecutive year. He made the remarks speaking at the opening ceremony of GM Forum 2022 organised by Hotelier Maldives.

The opening ceremony of the Sixth GM Forum was attended by Minister Mausoom and other tourism industry stakeholders. The forum took place in Kurumba Maldives on September 15.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Maumoon said that the sector has produced positive results so far this year. However, citing data, the minister noted tourist arrivals this year are 4.8% lower than in 2019, adding the figures are expected to improve in the last quarter of the year. He said the tourism sector aims to become the world's most popular destination for the third consecutive year, expressing confidence the target can be achieved.

Inaugurated in 2016, the GM Forum is held for general managers of resorts across the Maldives. The forum provides over 50 general managers a platform to discuss the unique challenges they face on a day-to-day basis and to learn from the best practice of their peers in a mutually supportive environment.
