Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has urged government organisations to participate in the World Cleanup Day activities.
In a circular, EPA requested all government organisations, schools, resorts and other parties to organise a cleanup programme on World Cleanup Day on September 17. The agency requested interested parties to register at worldcleanupday.org. It also urged volunteers to adhere to the waste management regulations during the cleanup programme.
World Cleanup Day is an annual global social action programme aimed at combating the global solid waste problem, including the problem of marine debris. It is coordinated by the global organisation, Let's Do It! World, headquartered in Estonia. World Cleanup Day includes litter cleanup and waste mapping activities spanning every time zone. Environmental cleanup events are held over the course of a 24-hour period in nearly every country.
The purpose of World Cleanup Day is to tackle the global waste problem and build a sustainable world with millions of volunteers, governments and organisations in 191 countries. Individuals, governments, corporations and organizations are all encouraged to take part in cleanups and to find solutions to tackle mismanaged waste. World Cleanup Day has engaged more than 60 million volunteers since 2018 and aims to reach 5% of world population.
