Water supply, sewerage projects to commence in five islands in Baa Atoll

Fenaka Corporation Limited is preparing to commence water supply and sewerage projects in five islands in Baa Atoll. The fieldwork will begin at the project sites that are mobilised in Dhonfanu, Kudarikilu, Kihaadhoo, Fulhadhoo, and Fehendhoo.

Speaking to PSM News, Director of Water and Sanitation Projects Athuhar Haleem said that the design stage has been finished for the projects and that the necessary equipment and resources will soon be transferred to the islands. He said that the equipment has been loaded onto vessels but rough seas have prevented travel. He added that a notice has been publicised to seek Maldivian workers for the project.

Fenaka has already transferred the equipment to Dhonfanu for site mobilisation and is seeking residents of the island who are interested in working on the project. The company is also providing compensation for the trees at the project site.

Fenaka was contracted to establish water supply and sewerage systems in the five islands in 2021. Surveys have been completed for some of the islands, while the environmental impact assessment (EIA) is ongoing in Fulhadhoo. The surveys are being conducted on all islands by EPOCH Associates Private Limited and the work includes meeting locals and gaining their opinions on the projects.
