Addu City Council has decided to provide 50% of the revenue generated from harbours for maintenance.
Addu City Council approved the proposal submitted by Councillor Khalid Mohamed at the 62nd meeting of the second session. During the discussions, the council members said that the decision will allow the harbour to be sustainably maintained through the fee payments.
The council of the second largest city in the Maldives will be providing half of the revenue generated from harbours to the local offices for maintenance. The city council noted that it has not decided to designate the use of the fees taken from the harbours for specific uses due to the low revenue generated from the harbours.
Addu City Council began the implementation of a new fee policy for harbours in June. The city council has hired harbour inspectors to monitor the adherence to the policy, which is available for download at the council’s website.
