Police have the most responsible for establishing justice: Home Minister

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated that police officers are the most responsible for establishing peace and justice.

Speaking at the ceremony to recognise the work of officers on Police Service Day, Minister Imran said that a society that allows the deterioration of justice is a society that is in decline. He said that every civilisation had individuals tasked with establishing peace and justice, and police officers have the highest responsibility in the modern world, as they are on the frontlines.

Furthermore, Minister Imran said that police services need to be improved day by day and that the government is responsible for providing the necessary resources. He also said that citizens are responsible for acknowledging and respecting the police officers for their service. He added that the lack of mutual respect will prevent peace from being maintained in the country. He expressed concern over the rise in crime in the past 18 years ago and said that citizens and the police service need to work together to overcome this problem for the next generation.

At the ceremony, commemorative plaques were awarded to officers who have served in the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for over 20 years and 25 years. As such, Vice President Faisal Naseem awarded the plaques for 25 years of service to 20 officers in positions consisting of the superintendent, technical director, and lower ranks.
