MPS officers graduate from first NCPLE inspector course

The National College of Policing and Law Enforcement (NCPLE) has awarded certificates to 48 officers who graduated from its first inspector course.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said the Maldives Police Service (MPS) needs to change in accordance with the increasing role played by police officers in the community. As such, he said that the services provided by MPS need to improve to better serve the people.

Furthermore, Commissioner Hameed highlighted the increase in cyber crimes and the responsibilities of police officers to solve problems faced by communities. He said police officers need to receive training and experience in dealing with these issues while MPS needs to improve its policies. He added that public trust will decrease if the police service does not develop in accordance with the changes.

The NCPLE was opened in Addu City in early 2022. The inspector course was conducted to train officers on administrative duties prior to promotion. MPS noted that the inspector course saw the highest number of graduates in its history, with 48 of the 50 participants completing the course. The six-week course included important modules on leadership and management, policing and investigation, and security and operations.

THE NCPLE has also officially started training classes with the 34th Police Training Course. The course began with 197 recruits, with a revised curriculum aimed at preparing them to meet the challenging policing demands.
