Regional Airports Company Limited has stated efforts are underway to install airfield lights in three domestic airports.
Speaking to PSM News, Director of Regional Airports Saudulla Ahmed said the company is currently undertaking efforts to install airfield lights in three domestic airports operated by the company, in order to commence night-time flight operations at these airports. As such, Saudulla revealed a contractor has been hired to install airfield lights in Kulhudhuffushi Airport, while an announcement has been issued seeking contractors to install airfield lights in Hoarafushi Airport and Maavarulu Airport. He added the company also plans to install airfield lights in Madivaru Airport, once the airport is handed over to the company.
Due to the expansion of tourism activities as well as the increased number of locals travelling during holidays, the domestic air travel is now in high demand in the Maldives. Commencing night-time flight operations to additional airports would increase the availability of tickets for domestic travel.
