Vice President Faisal Naseem has inaugurated “Fannu Veshi”, the first Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centre dedicated for children, including those with special needs.
Fannu Veshi was officially inaugurated by the vice president during a special function held at Imaduddin School on August 11. The function was also attended by Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali and several senior government officials.
Fannu Veshi was established as part of the inclusive education policy mandated under the Article 8 of the Education Act. The facility will focus its programmes on four areas; culinary arts, beauty therapy, technology, and tailoring. All programmes are Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) certification level 3 programmes.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali said the national education system envisions every student to be prepared for adult life when they finish school. The minister said the new facility would enable students to develop the necessary skills to prepare them for their professional lives and ease the process of seeking employment. She expressed hope the programmes conducted by the facility will help to build a skilled and capable generation for the future.
During the ceremony, Vice President Faisal Naseem presented commemorative plaques to those who assisted in establishing Fannu Veshi, based at Imaduddin School. Furthermore, the education minister also inaugurated book titled “Beyond Inclusion” during the ceremony.
