Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated continuous efforts are needed to assist students with special needs, both in and out of school. He made the remarks while speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate “Fannu Veshi”, the first Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centre dedicated for children, including those with special needs.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Naseem said the administration places a high priority on assisting children with special needs, highlighting numerous projects launched across the country to establish the necessary resources and to train teachers. The vice president said continuous efforts are needed to assist students with special needs, both in and out of school. He said conducive environments must be facilitated so that individuals with special needs can also work and earn a living, just like everybody else.
The vice president emphasised the administration’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and stated that numerous initiatives in the field are underway across the country. He noted that the administration had included therapeutic treatment for children and people with disabilities under the National Health Insurance Scheme as part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s first 100-day pledge. He also stated that efforts are underway to introduce treatment services in Kulhudhuffushi City.
Speaking further, Vice President Naseem said in addition to establishing the necessary facilities, the administration also places a high importance on developing human resources in the field. Noting there is a scarcity of experienced local professionals in the field, the vice president said the administration plans to expand the training and development of professionals in the field.
