Maduvvari harbour development project to conclude by September

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed harbour development of Maduvvari, Raa Atoll, will be completed by September this year.

Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim met with Maduvvari Island Council and inspected the progress of the project. Azim said the harbour Maduvvari is one of the largest being built by MTCC. He said the project launched two years ago is quite challenging as work has to be stopped following rough seas and slight changes in weather.

President of Maduvvari Island Council Mohamed Sadhiq said residents of the island have been in need of a modern harbour for many years. He added the harbour will also provide many conveniences to the boat owners and the residents.

As part of the project, MTCC will undertake dredging of 80,400cbm of harbour, dredging of 65,520cbm of new harbour basin, and 7,280 of new entrance channel dredging, and the construction of a 582m quay wall, a 411m breakwater, and revetment. In addition, the installation of navigation lights, street lights and paving of the harbour area will also be undertaken. MTCC was contracted the project for USD4.7 million.
