Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed the minibus services in Male’ will be free of charge during the first two weeks of service.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim stated MTCC is undertaking preparations with the relevant authorities to begin minibus services in Male’. Azim said MTCC will conduct the minibus service free of charge during the first two weeks of service, which will be designated as the trial phase of the service. He added school children, disabled persons and senior citizens will be able to travel on the minibuses free of charge throughout the duration of the service.
In 2021, MTCC signed a 50-year contract to operate bus services in the Greater Male’ Region, Addu, Fuvahmulah, as well as Gan, Fonadhoo and Isdhoo in Laamu Atoll. Last month, MTCC brought in 36 minibuses to be used in the service. Some of the buses have been transferred to Fuvahmulah, Addu and Laamu Atoll.
