Parliament holds drawing and writing competition for Democracy Day

Parliament of the Maldives has revealed that it is holding a drawing and article writing competition for the International Day of Democracy marked on September 15.

The Parliament has opened applications to participate in the competition with the purpose of increasing public awareness of democratic principles and the work of the national assembly. The theme of the competition is Citizen’s Rule – Citizen’s Parliament and individuals interested in participating in the competition are required to submit their own work.

Applicants submitting entries for the article writing portion should write objectively for and against the subject matter and include references such as books, articles, and statistics. The article writing portion is split into four age groups with different word limits.

Applicants submitting entries for the drawing portion should draw an illustration that conveys the principles of Islam, the constitution and laws, and community. The illustration should be 12x18 inches and any message should be written by hand in Dhivehi or English. The drawing portion is also split into four age groups.

The winners of the competition will be awarded cash prizes ranging between USD200-1,300. The Parliament will be accepting submissions until September 1 and winners will be chosen by a special committee.
