Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has hired Donbez Private Limited to build 100 housing units in Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll. The agreement for the project was signed by Director General at the Planning Ministry Ahmed Vishan and Head of Operations at Donbez Ali Hamdhoon.
Under the agreement, Donbez will be constructing 50 two-storey row houses measuring 700sqft as well as 50 housing units measuring 1,000sqft. Each housing unit will consist of three rooms, three bathrooms and one sitting room. The units will also have a kitchen, laundry room, and storeroom. The area surrounding the housing units will be developed with a courtyard and parking area.
Around USD5.4 million has been allocated under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) for the project. The contractor is required to complete the project within a year.
Hinnavaru has a land area of 22 hectares with a population of 5,000. The residents have expressed concern over the lack of housing in the island. An area of 54 hectares was reclaimed in 2009 but no housing development projects had been initiated since then.
