Gov’t decides not to take Hiya flats built by companies

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated that the government has decided not to take any flats built by state-owned companies under the Hiya housing project.

The Hiya project began with the intention to develop 36 towers in Hulhumale' Phase II with participation from numerous state-owned companies. However, only four companies have been developing the towers. They are Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), and Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). The companies have stated that all the towers will be built within the year and that work is now ongoing to install utilities and other finishing work.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed said that the government has agreed not to take any flats developed by the companies. The previous administration had decided to reserve one-room apartments from Hiya towers built by state-owned companies, to be opened to the public. However, the government has now decided to give the apartments to the employees of the companies.
