Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the fieldwork of the harbour redevelopment project in Hithaadhoo, Baa Atoll.
MTCC revealed the scope of the project includes dredging and excavation operations of 19,030cbm, construction of a 22m groyne, a 495m breakwater, a 90m revetment, a 350m quay wall, and installation of a 1750sqm harbour pavement, navigational aids and harbor lights.
Speaking regarding the project, President of Hithaadhoo Island Council Abdul Azeez said the renovation and expansion of the harbor will solve difficulties faced in fully utilising the harbor. He said installing geobags, as part of the project, is expected to solve the issues of sand flowing into the port.
The harbour redevelopment project in Hithaadhoo was contracted to MTCC at a cost of USD1.15 million.
