RTL ferry stops in Zone 1 to be established by August

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that all Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry terminals and stops will be established in Zone 1 by August.

The ferry terminals are being built on islands that see the most visitors while ferry stops are being established on islands which would see fewer number of visitors. As such, the main ferry terminals have been established in Kulhudhuffushi and Hanimaadhoo, while ferry stops are being built on 10 other islands in the atoll. The ferry terminals are being built with an area dedicated for commercial activities, a parent room, luggage room, tuck shop and restrooms.

Manager at MTCC Ali Fathih said that ferry stops will soon be established on six islands and that the company is planning to complete the construction of ferry terminals and stops in Haa Alifu Atoll and Shaviyani Atoll by August. He also said plans are being formulated to build ferry terminals in Zone 2.

MTCC began the RTL high-speed ferry service in Zone 1 of the National Public Ferry Network, which consists of 40 inhabited islands in Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll. The National Public Ferry Network is a large-scale project that introduces efficient, affordable, convenient, and sustainable passenger and cargo ferry services to all administrative islands of the country. In line with the Decentralisation Act, it aims to facilitate inclusive regional development by connecting people and services, accelerating social and economic growth, improving efficiency in the delivery of public services, and improving mobility and accessibility for all citizens in all areas of the nation.
