President says gov’t aims to build a generation of innovative youth

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the administration aims to build generations of skilled, talented, and innovative youth who strive toward maintaining cohesion and harmony in society.

Speaking at the golden jubilee anniversary event of Funadhoo School in Shaviyani Atoll, President Solih said the most significant contribution to the community, and most prominent achievement of Funadhoo School is the human resources it helped develop over its 50-year-long history. As such, the president noted that many of the school's alumni are valuable members of society, serving in leading roles on the island and in the region. He also highlighted the numerous academic achievements of the school on the national stage.

Furthermore, President Solih reiterated the administration's commitment to ensuring inclusive education and the right for every child to quality education and learning. He said the administration aims to build generations of skilled, talented, and innovative youth, noting the first-degree grant scheme was introduced to realise these goals. He also advised students to be mindful of what is happening around them and consider ways to contribute to community development.

Additionally, President Solih spoke about the administration's efforts to advance the education sector and noted that 203 education infrastructure projects are currently progressing in different stages of development. In this regard, he noted a project to develop 15 classrooms in Funadhoo School is also underway. He added funds will be earmarked in the budget next year to establish an additional administrative building and spoke about the implementation of the administration's decision last May to revise the pay structure of education sector staff to ensure a commensurate wage.

At the ceremony, President Solih presented commemorative Golden Jubilee Honour plaques to the long-serving staff of the school. The honour recipients included the school's founder, the late Abdulla Abdul Kareem, and teacher Abdul Haadhee Yoosuf. He also presented commemorative plaques to long-serving employees who have served for over 15 and 20 years.
