Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has commenced the second round of the Middle Managers’ Refresher Programme.
The programme is conducted by the Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) of MCS. The programme is carried out from June 4-8, and is participated by 18 prison officers across ranks ranging from Staff Sergeant to Senior Prison Officer.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the programme, Head of Female Prison Command at Maafushi Prison, Chief Prison Officer Aishath Riuza said MCS aims to ensure that all prison officers working in Maldivian prisons are competent and capable officers who fulfill their duties and responsibilities to the standards expected of them. She highlighted the importance of continuous development and learning in order to prepare for the changing prison environment, and expressed hope officers will make the best use of their training opportunities.
MCS stated the aim of the Middle Managers’ Refresher Programme is to revisit some of the subjects and modules taught in basic training, and to ensure they are familiar with the regulations and policies of MCS. Modules taught under this programme include leadership and communication skills, ethics and goal setting, swimming and foot drills, investigation and problem solving as well as managerial profile. Furthermore, participants will also be provided information on important conventions and protocols such as the UN Convention Against Torture and the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture.
