President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the Child Safeguarding Policy is an additional step toward ensuring complete protection and safety for children in all aspects of their lives, including the field of sports. He made the remarks after launching the policy at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih said that the policy will also help advance children's knowledge and understanding of their rights. The president emphasised that the policy will be implemented on a national scale, assuring the cooperation of all government offices and institutions. He urged families and civil society to support the policy's implementation, emphasising how far it has come in terms of child protection and safety.
Also at the ceremony, President of Maldives Olympic Committee Mohamed Abdul Sattar said the policy aims to establish a safe environment for athletes and children involved in sport-related activities and that it was formulated with rules and guidelines set by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The Child Safeguarding Policy was formulated by the Maldives Olympic Committee in association with Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC). The policy aims to ensure the safety and protection of children participating in sporting events from abuse, neglect, and harm. The policy was drawn up in accordance with international best practices and in line with the constitution, laws, and regulations.
