President and First Lady attend closing of Majeedi Run

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have attended the closing ceremony of the Majeedi Run event, held as part of the 95th anniversary celebrations of Majeediyya School. The event took place at the Ekuveni Track in Male’ City.

Before the closing ceremony, President Solih and First Lady Fazna joined the run and completed some of the laps. President Solih then put out the designated torch to mark the end of the event. The president and first lady were accompanied by Vice President Faisal Naseem at the event, which also saw the initiation of the official countdown for the school’s centennial anniversary. Many former students of the school participated in the event, including Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan, in addition to government ministers and state dignitaries, current students, and members of the public.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Principal of Majeediyya School Aishath Mohamed Solih said the purpose of the event was to rally participants to work together for the future events planned to celebrate the 100th anniversary. Around 1,400 students of Majeediyya School presented an item at the closing ceremony by arranging themselves into the shape of the number 95 to mark the 95th anniversary. Majeedi Run began at Majeediyya School on May 13 under the theme Majeediyya - Towards 100 years of Nation-Building, and concluded after 95 hours.

Majeediyya School has begun a special five-year countdown for its 100th anniversary. The school was founded in 1927 under the name Madharusathul Salahiyya, which was later changed to Majeediyya by former President Mohamed Ameen. Majeediyya School first opened with 60 students and now teaches around 1,500 students.
