Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim has reassured the public that the recent reforms to the national insurance scheme, Aasandha, are not a cause for concern and will not impose a burden on residents.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Health Expo 2024, Minister Nazim underscored the importance of a population with good health and well-being. The minister further highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance and implement reforms to the Aasandha scheme, with the goal of providing more efficient healthcare-related services to residents. He noted that the efforts to reform Aasandha, under the directives issued by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, are designed to improve the system and will not place any additional burden on the public.
In his address, the Minister also noted that the government would seek expert advice on how to resolve existing issues within the insurance system and identify measures needed to strengthen it. He pointed out that failing to address these issues now would lead to a heavier burden in the future.
The government has been exerting efforts, aimed at enhancing the Aasandha system, to ensure that it provides services to those who are in the greatest need. Recent modifications include a shift in billing procedures, prioritising private insurance for individuals seeking outpatient healthcare services. However, the government has clarified that individuals whose private insurance does not cover specific services or has expired will still receive coverage under Aasandha.
