Climate action slowed down by lack of belief in severity of the issue

Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna has stated global action to fight climate change is being slowed down by the lack of belief by some countries in the severity of climate change.

Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2022 in New Delhi, India, Minister Shauna said some countries are unable to feel the seriousness of the issue and the threat faced by the world due to the rapid and dangerous impacts of climate change. She expressed belief there would be swifter, and more effective action against the issue if all countries believed in the problem the same way.

Furthermore, the environment minister also highlighted the inequalities in extending assistance to the fight against climate change. She highlighted the need for vulnerable countries to have equal access to climate resilient technology and funds. She added the current generations would be the last to have the opportunity to have a meaningful impact in fighting climate change.

The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference committed to addressing the most challenging issues facing the global community. This year’s edition was attended by 200 officials from 90 different countries.
