62% of resort employees receive booster dose

Ministry of Tourism has revealed around 62% of the resort employees have received their booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the weekly tourism update report published by the tourism ministry, 135,379 resort employees got their booster doses, which consist of 61.8% of total resort employees.

A vast majority of resort employees have completed their first dose. As such, 99.8% of the employees have received the first dose and 97.6% have received the second dose.

The Maldives launched the campaign to administer the booster dose for the public on January 15. A special priority has been given by the government to the tourism industry under the vaccination programme, as tourism sector employees are those who directly work with tourists arriving in the Maldives.

Earlier this year, the tourism ministry and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) launched a campaign to ensure the whole tourism sector is vaccinated against COVID-19. As such, stakeholders aim to make the Maldives the first country to establish a fully vaccinated tourism industry.
