Over 324,000 tourist arrivals recorded so far in 2022

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 324,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year.

The statistics from the tourism ministry show 324,743 tourists have visited this year, with 131,764 arrivals recorded in January, 149,008 arrivals in February, and 43,971 arrivals so far in March. The number of tourist arrivals recorded so far in March is a 48.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Statistics released by the ministry show that a daily average of 4,776 tourists visit the Maldives and spend an average of eight days on holiday.

The highest number of tourists visited from Russia this year with 48,173 arrivals, with the second-highest being the UK with 36,608 arrivals. Russia had the second-highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives at the end of 2021, only exceeded by India. However, India is currently the third-largest source market with 31,433 arrivals to the Maldives recorded so far this year.

The government is holding events throughout 2022 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Maldives Tourism this year. The tourism ministry and stakeholders of the tourism industry are working to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
