Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has inaugurated a bus driver training programme.
MTCC will be conducting the programme for three days and will provide job opportunities to participants who complete the programme. The state-owned company stated 40 slots have been opened for the programme, with 20 slots reserved for female trainees. The training programme was inaugurated at a special ceremony on International Women's Day.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Shahid Hussain said the programme aims to provide job opportunities to young people and women. He said MTCC also aims to close the gender gap by providing opportunities for women, adding that the company has a high number of women in its workforce.
MTCC also welcomed the first female bus driver of the Maldives Sausan Mohamed and female bus attendants. The company stated it looks forward to recruiting more women to the transport sector.
