MTCC begins Phase 2 of Thinadhoo Regional Port development

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun phase 2 of the project to design and build a regional port in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The first phase of the project involved dredging 45,000cbm, placing concentrate in an area of 3,000sqm, and installing a drainage system. MTCC stated foundation footing concrete work of the guardhouse building has been completed.

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) contracted MTCC to develop the regional port in 2020. MTCC is tasked with completing the project within 330 days at a cost of USD1.2 million. The scope of the work includes the construction of the port administration building, a guardhouse building, a warehouse building, a workshop building, installation of light posts, and a sewer network.

The government decided to develop a port in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll to increase socio-economic opportunities in the region. Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Immigration, and MPL are expected to launch services in Thinadhoo following the completion of the regional port.
