All schools to have permanent principals within three years

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has stated all schools will have permanent principals within the next three years.

Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the Principals’ Scholarship Scheme, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali said the administration places a high priority on appointing well-trained, capable principals to all schools. The minister noted the newly launched scholarship scheme is designed to meet the government’s target of appointing permanent principals to all 216 government schools across the country within the next three years. As such she stated the scholarship scheme will enable the training of permanent local principals for schools that currently do not have a permanent principal.

Speaking further, the education minister noted the work of school principals are very complex and challenging. However, she noted the work provides a lot of satisfaction when done right, as they are able to affect the education of young generations positively.

Under the Principals’ Scholarship Scheme, 20 principals are set to commence the Masters of Educational Management course in Universiti Malaya, Malaysia this month. The education ministry stated they will be returning to the Maldives and resuming their duties in April 2023.
