Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to provide specialist doctor consultations to inmates and detainees without bringing them to Male’.
The MoU was signed by Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu and Chief Executive Officer of IGMH Ibrahim Saleem. The duration of the MoU is one year.
MCS stated the purpose of the MoU is to provide medical care for inmates and remanded persons for uncommon ailments and problems through relevant specialist doctors from the convenience of prisons. Under the MOU, IGMH will be sending super specialist doctors, specialist doctors, nurses and other technical staff to prisons for a short period. The doctors are to consult a minimum of 20 patients per visit.
MCS stated the arrangement of such services will be a huge convenience to providing medical care to the incarcerated. MCS stated it aims to provide essential medical care to the incarcerated while ensuring the safety of inmates and remanded persons, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
