Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of Asim Mohamed as the President of Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB).
The motion to appoint Asim Mohamed as PCB President was reviewed by the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee of the parliament. Following endorsement by the committee, the parliament approved the appointment with votes from 55 parliamentarians.
Asim was appointed as the President of the PCB on December 15. Prior to his appointment, Asim served as the Vice President of the PCB. In addition to Asim, the other members on the PCB are Aishath Shazly, Rushaha Ahmed Shareef, Ali Shafeeu, Ali Shujau, and Ahmed Shareef Yoosuf.
PCB was established under the Law of Privatisation, Corporatisation, Monitoring, and Evaluation of Government Businesses. The PCB is a seven-member board tasked to carry out privatisation, corporatisation, monitoring, evaluation, selling of public shares from government companies, government shareholding companies and commercial government business enterprises, and all procedures relating to such activities.
