VIA sets new record for air traffic movement in a single day

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed a new record was set on February 19 in air traffic movement in a single day.

MACL revealed VIA registered 839 air traffic movements on February 19, including 210 runway movements and 629 seaplane movements. MACL noted this broke the previous record of 826 air traffic movements, set on January 2 this year.

VIA is the main international gateway of the Maldives. Due to the increased air traffic at VIA, MACL is undertaking efforts to train more air traffic controllers for the airport. As such, MACL introduced the first Air Traffic Tower Simulator in the Maldives at VIA last year.
