ATM services to be established in islands with over 500 residents

Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has stated ATM services will be established in all islands with a population of over 500 residents. He made the statement at a town hall meeting held in Olhuvelifushi during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's trip to Lhaviyani Atoll.

During the meeting, Minister Fayyaz said President Solih aims to establish ATM services in all islands with a population of over 500 residents. The minister said discussions are being held with the Bank of Maldives (BML) and a meeting with the national bank's board has been scheduled this week. He added that ATM services will be established in numerous islands by the end of the year and the services will be established in Olhuvelifushi much earlier, as the region has a large number of resorts.

There are 11 tourist resorts currently operating in Lhaviyani Atoll, with two more under development. The atoll also consists of four inhabited islands, with only Olhuvelifushi lacking ATM services while consisting of a population of 756 residents.
