Ministry of Tourism has revealed the tourist arrivals recorded in the Maldives from the UK are increasing this year.
As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, 24,010 tourists have visited the Maldives from the UK so far this year. This makes UK the second top source market of tourists to the Maldives this year.
UK had been one of the main tourist source markets of the Maldives prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the Maldives had recorded 126,199 tourist arrivals from the UK in 2019, ranking the country as the fifth top source market for the year.
However, due to the restrictions imposed amid the COVID-19 pandemic, tourist arrivals from the UK had dropped significantly during the last two years. In this regard, the Maldives recorded 52,720 and 62,777 tourist arrivals from the UK in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Maldives is recording an increase in tourist arrivals this year, compared to 2021.
As such, a total of 210,184 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year, which is a 44.9% increase compared to the 145,046 tourist arrivals recorded during the same period last year. The government and stakeholders of the tourism industry aim to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
