Ooredoo partners up with Viber to enable money transfers for customers

Ooredoo Maldives has established a partnership with Rakuten Viber to allow customers to transfer money through the online messaging platform.

Ooredoo introduced the service to allow individual customers as well as shops, cafes, restaurants and other businesses to send and receive money conveniently through the online messaging platform.

Speaking at the event held to inaugurate the partnership with Rakuten Viber, CEO of Ooredoo Maldives Khalid Al-Hamadi noted Viber is a widely used platform in the community, adding this partnership will accelerate the digital adoption and the use of digital financial platforms. He reiterated the commitment of Ooredoo in bringing innovative solutions to connect communities to greater heights.

Attending the event virtually, Senior Director Rakuten Viber David Tse said beyond call and messaging, Viber is a platform that enables its users to conveniently perform payment transactions. He stated data privacy and security will always be Viber’s guiding principle.

Under the partnership, Ooredoo customers can transfer money through Viber using the mobile wallet m-Faisaa. Ooredoo stated the first 1,000 customers to transfer money through Viber will receive a cashback of USD1.62 to their m-Faisaa wallet. The offer is valid for silver and gold wallet customers who have cashed in at least USD32 to their m-Faisaa wallet this month.
