Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has recorded an income of over USD152 million in January.
As per the statistics of MIRA, the authority had collected an income of USD152.8 million in January which is a 31.2% increase compared to the income from January last year. It is also 38.6% higher than the projected income for January.
The largest share of MIRA’s income in January was contributed by Goods and Services Tax (GST). As such, MIRA had collected USD68 million in GST last month. The authority also collected USD56 million in Income Tax, USD6.2 million in Green Tax, USD 5.5 million in tourism and land rent, USD5 million in lease period extension fees and USD12.2 million in other taxes and fees.
MIRA stated the increased income in January this year was due to the increase in tourist activity. As such, MIRA noted a significant increase was recorded in GST, Income Tax, Green Tax and airport taxes.
